World Bartender Day

Today is World Bartender Day! A day to celebrate bartenders and recognise their creativity, craftsmanship, and style. 

Here at Hayman’s we would like to give special mention to Jordan Sweeney, the winner of our True Taste cocktail competition 2018!

His winning True Taste cocktail ‘Keep Off the Grass’ took inspiration from the 1966 World Cup, recreating the moment when the final whistle blew on the 30th of July at Wembley stadium. Pulling out all the stops, Jordan distilled grass from Wembley Stadium to create a grass tincture for the True Taste competition!

Keep Off the Grass

35ml Hayman’s London  Dry Gin

25ml  Pea-Pod  Juice

15ml  Grass  Tincture

10ml  Lemon  Juice

10ml  Mint  Leaf   Sugar  Syrup

English Sparkling Wine

1. Chill a champagne flute
2. Shake the pea-pod juice, grass tincture, lemon juice and mint leaf sugar syrup
3. Double strain into the chilled glass.
4. Top with English sparkling wine.
5. Garnish with gold leaf.

If grass tincture and pea-pod juice is a bit of a stretch, then Jordan recommends a Hayman’s Martinez:

Hayman's Gin Martinez cocktail

 

Hayman's Martinez

50ml Hayman’s Old Tom Gin

15ml Sweet (Rosso) Vermouth

15ml Dry Vermouth

5-10ml Hayman's Sloe Gin

1 dash Angostura Bitters

1 dash Orange Bitters

1. Chill a martini glass
2. Stir all the ingredients in a mixing glass or tin
3. Strain into a chilled martini glass
4. Garnish with a twist of orange peel or a Maraschino cherry

This year’s True Taste competition will give bartenders across the country the chance to win a distilling apprenticeship and create their own True English Gin. Online entries will go live from the 1st -28th of April, followed by regional heats across the country in May.  The Grand Final will take place at the Home of English Gin in June.
