Today is World Bartender Day! A day to celebrate bartenders and recognise their creativity, craftsmanship, and style.
Here at Hayman’s we would like to give special mention to Jordan Sweeney, the winner of our True Taste cocktail competition 2018!
His winning True Taste cocktail ‘Keep Off the Grass’ took inspiration from the 1966 World Cup, recreating the moment when the final whistle blew on the 30th of July at Wembley stadium. Pulling out all the stops, Jordan distilled grass from Wembley Stadium to create a grass tincture for the True Taste competition!
1. Chill a champagne flute
2. Shake the pea-pod juice, grass tincture, lemon juice and mint leaf sugar syrup
3. Double strain into the chilled glass.
4. Top with English sparkling wine.
5. Garnish with gold leaf.
If grass tincture and pea-pod juice is a bit of a stretch, then Jordan recommends a Hayman’s Martinez:
1. Chill a martini glass
2. Stir all the ingredients in a mixing glass or tin
3. Strain into a chilled martini glass
4. Garnish with a twist of orange peel or a Maraschino cherry
Jordan is currently the assistant Head Bartender at The Wigmore in the Langham Hotel. You can also find him at the Hayman’s distillery with our distiller Sam, creating our first Bartender’s Edition gin. Launching soon!
This year’s True Taste competition will give bartenders across the country the chance to win a distilling apprenticeship and create their own True English Gin. Online entries will go live from the 1st -28th of April, followed by regional heats across the country in May. The Grand Final will take place at the Home of English Gin in June. More details will be announced soon, so make sure to read BarLife magazine and follow @Haymansgin on social media to keep updated.
